New Zealand Citizens in Australia

New Zealand Citizens in Australia

If you are a New Zealand citizen living in Australia you can now apply for Australian permanent residence. This is a new scheme that began in July 2017. The advantages of being a permanent resident are that you are no longer a temporary resident of Australia. This means you have your PR and you can sponsor other people to live in Australia with you. It also means that in 4 years you will be able to become an Australian citizen if you want.

The visa is relatively easy to apply for.  You can also add family members.  So for example if you are a New Zealand citizen living in Australia.  And your spouse or partner is not a New Zealand citizen.  They can still apply for Australian Permanent Residence through your visa application.
